Bitwarden has completed its rollout of native passkey support across all major platforms, including browser extensions for Chrome and Firefox, desktop apps on Windows, macOS, and Linux, and mobile clients on Android and iOS.
Passkeys are a FIDO2-based authentication standard that replaces passwords with cryptographic key pairs stored on your device. They are phishing-resistant by design and eliminate the need to remember or type passwords for supported websites.
Bitwarden's implementation allows users to create, store, and use passkeys directly within the Bitwarden vault, synced across devices with the same end-to-end encryption that protects regular passwords.
The update also includes improvements to the vault health report, which now flags accounts that support passkeys but have not yet migrated from passwords.
Bitwarden remains free for personal use and is available as a self-hosted option for organizations that want to keep their vault infrastructure on-premises.
