Nextcloud 29 Brings AI Assistant and Improved Groupware to Self-Hosted Cloud
Nextcloud has released version 29, its most significant update in recent years, featuring a built-in AI assistant, a redesigned groupware suite, and major performance improvements. The AI assistant, called Nextcloud Assistant, can summarize documents, generate text, translate content, and answer questions about files stored in your Nextcloud instance. It runs on local AI models by default, meaning no data leaves your server. The groupware suite — which includes calendar, contacts, and mail — has been redesigned with a unified interface and improved performance. The mail client now supports threading, snooze, and smart inbox features comparable to commercial email clients. File operations have been significantly optimized for large files and high-traffic instances. Administrators managing instances with thousands of users will see reduced server load and faster sync times. Nextcloud 29 is available as a free download for self-hosted deployments. The Nextcloud Hub enterprise edition includes additional support and compliance features.
