Obsidian 1.6 Expands Canvas With Database Views and Improved Mobile Sync

Obsidian has released version 1.6, featuring major improvements to its Canvas feature, new database-style views for organizing notes, and significantly improved sync reliability on iOS and Android. Canvas, Obsidian's infinite whiteboard feature, now supports embedded database views that allow users to display filtered lists of notes as cards on the canvas. This bridges the gap between Obsidian's link-based knowledge graph and more structured data organization. The new Properties feature, introduced in a previous update, has been expanded with better filtering, sorting, and display options. Users can now create table views of their notes filtered by any combination of properties. Mobile sync via Obsidian Sync has been rewritten to handle conflicts more reliably, particularly for users who switch frequently between devices. The update also reduces battery usage during background sync on iOS. Obsidian remains free for personal use. Obsidian Sync and Obsidian Publish are paid add-on services.
