Mozilla Thunderbird has completed its multi-year Supernova redesign project, delivering a modernized interface that brings the email client in line with contemporary design standards while preserving its powerful feature set.
The redesign introduces a new unified toolbar, a redesigned folder panel, and a card-based message list that makes it easier to scan emails at a glance. The calendar and task management features have been integrated more tightly into the main interface, reducing the need to switch between separate panels.
Account setup has been significantly simplified. Thunderbird can now automatically detect server settings for most major email providers, reducing the configuration burden for new users.
The Android version of Thunderbird, based on the K-9 Mail codebase, has also been updated to align with the desktop redesign and now supports calendar synchronization.
Thunderbird is maintained by MZLA Technologies, a subsidiary of the Mozilla Foundation, and is funded by user donations.
